Frequently Asked Questions About Cutting Discs

At our factory, we receive countless questions from professional and amateur users regarding the selection, use, troubleshooting and maintenance of cut-off wheels. Next, our product specialist XXX will answer several common questions to help customers use cutting discs correctly.
Q: What do all the codes printed on the cutting disc mean?
A: These codes provide key specifications such as maximum speed, disc type, abrasive, grit size and fabrication details to properly match your tool and application. While abbreviations vary by brand, common markings include RPM rating, directional arrow, disc type, abrasive bond, grit size, grade, and safety standards such as ANSI or EN.
Q: How do I choose the right cutting disc size for my angle grinder?
A: Consider three dimensions diameter, mandrel bore and thickness:
Diameter - Match the disc size to the capabilities of your grinder. Bigger means faster cutting, but requires more power.
Spindle Bore - The grinder spindle must fit precisely without tilting or stress.
Thickness - Thicker discs remove more material but require more grinder power. Thin wheels provide fast and precise cuts.
When sizing discs, balance desired depth/speed of cut with tool capabilities.
Q: How do I know when a worn cutting disc needs to be replaced?
A: Immediately replace cracked, chipped, embedded chips, or wobbly discs. Also replace discs with significant rounding, moderate flank wear, or groove wear greater than 75% of their original height. Discs running on flat blunt abrasives overheat and risk shattering failure. Proactively retire used discs before problems arise.
